Purity is the gatekeeper for everything precious and blissful in God’s kingdom.

There are two ways each of us can approach life: spending our days meeting our needs or looking for ways to meet others’ needs. The mystery is that when we spend our life focused on our own needs, we are never satisfied... but when we pour out our life and focus on how we can serve others... our deepest needs are met as well!

I’m glad that our God is not the guy with a pony-tail who wants to toss a frisbee with His saints.

Even though my Sunday school upbringing had taught me that God loved me, inwardly I always suspected that maybe He was more interested in making me miserable than in blessing me.

And the flesh is that reprehensible preference for self that lurks within every one of our hearts. It is that base and selfish instinct to preserve our own interests at the expense of God’s interests. It’s devious, it’s deceitful, it’s self-indulgent. It’s interested only in selfish comfort and will happily crucify Christ afresh to secure it. God also has another name for it- sin.

No matter how many rules we make for ourselves, rules don’t create godly relationships. Only leaning on our faithful Father and longing to please Him with everything we do will set the stage for a beautiful romance!

A true leader cannot be dependent on companionship for his or her security, but must learn to trust in God alone.

We mustn’t claim to stand for our King but then deny Him by living a fleshly existence. Our King’s Mighties don’t shy away from the blazing searchlight of God’s Word, but rather, willingly expose their souls and cry, ‘Dear King, if there be anything that stands between You and me, if there be anything that shrouds Your glory, if there be anything that will weaken my sword in battle, purge it, slay it, utterly destroy it!

Inviting God to write the chapters of our loves story involves work on our part – not just a scattered prayer here and there, not merely a feeble attempt to find some insight by flopping open the Bible every now and then. It’s seeking Him on a daily basis, putting Him in first place at all times, discovering His heart.

If you are longing for something more than the hit-and-run relationship cycle, something beautiful and meaningful in your life, then I’m going to lay it on the line. You must let go of the captain’s position in your life and trust Him. You must give up the little you’re hanging on to now to gain something infinitely greater. You must let go of the helm and let Him lead.
